Samye Dzong Plzen (Pilsen) is the centre of Tibetan Buddhism, founded 1997 by Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche. The centre is named Samye Dzong, after Samye (Samjä), the very first Buddhist monastic university of Tibet. This is becouse our mother centre Samye Ling (see Samye Ling site ) in Scotland was the very first Tibetan Buddhist centre in the west. Samye means "inconceivable or beyond concept". Dzong means "large house or fortress".
The Abbot of Kagyu Samye Ling Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche is a highly accomplished meditation master who received full ordination, teachings and transmissions from His Holiness the 16. Gyalwang Karmapa. His understanding of the Western mind coupled with his profound meditation experience makes him ideally placed to oversee Samye Dzong`s communities. Under his spiritual guidance we practice Shina meditation (tranquality meditation) and chant Chenrezig pudja (compassionate and loving-kindness meditation).
Samye Dzong Plzen belongs to the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. The head of the Karma Kagyu (also known as the Karma Kamtzang) is His Holiness Gyalwang Karmapa, Tibet`s very first "reincarnate" lama. The Kagyu lineage is known as the "practice lineage" as it emphasis the practical application of the Buddha`s teaching, particularly through the profound instructions of MAHAMUDRA.
