ROKPA in the Czech Republic

Rokpa is a Tibetan word meaning "help, helping or serving". It is a charity, aiming to give primary care (food, medicine, shelter, basic education etc.). More details under the Rokpa main website.

The Rokpa organisation was set up in 1982 by Dr. Akong Tulku Rinpoche, founder of the Samye Ling Tibetan Centre in Scotland ( see Samye Ling site ) , to which Samye Dzong in Plzen (Pilsen) is affiliated. Under his inspiration, Rokpa has grown into a world-wide group of non-political, non-sectarian organisations working specifically to help those in need and generally to improve the quality of life everywhere. The activities of Rokpa today falls into three main areas:

  • Humanitarian aid
  • Psychotherapy
  • Spirituality

Humanitarian aid - Altough Samye Dzong does not run it`s own business, it supports other organizations and foundations being involved in this field in Czech Republic. They are mainly focused in the Tibetan affairs and try to help people from Tibet. Click here for more details!

Psychotherapy - Tara Rokpa Therapy is a method of psychotherapy, which has brought together Eastern and Western understanding of the mind. The method is founded on compassion towards ourselves and others. Its main source is the practice, philosophy and psychology of Buddhism. Tara Rokpa Therapy was developed by Dr. Akong Tulku Rinpoche to help people understand themselves more deeply through the exploration and integration of body, speech and mind. Tara Rokpa Therapy is offered on a number of different levels: for example Learning to relax, Back to Beginnings, Taming the tiger etc.
The book TAMING THE TIGER by Dr. Akong has been translated into Czech language and is supposed to be issued shortly. We also prepare therapeutic course based on exercises, described in this book.

Spirituality - Samye Dzong is a spiritual centre for the study, practice and application of the Buddha`s teachings. But it is opened to people of all faiths, who wish to follow a spiritual path. We also manage or help to coordinate the visits of buddhist teachers and masters. In this time it is prepared the visit of His Holiness 14. Dalailama.
